Blessingway Ceremonies

Honoring the mama as she steps into motherhood.

A Blessingway is a deeply meaningful alternative to a traditional baby shower. Instead of focusing on gifts and baby gear, this ceremony centers on the mother herself—her heart, her emotions, and her transformation as she prepares to bring new life into the world.

This is a time to honor the shedding of her old identity, acknowledge the grief and beauty of transition, and uplift her as she is “born” as a mother too. Surrounded by her closest circle, the mama-to-be is celebrated, nourished, and reminded she’s not alone in this journey.

What Happens at a Blessingway?

Each ceremony is tailored to the mama’s needs and desires. Together, we create a sacred, supportive space filled with love and intention. Your Blessingway may include:

  • Opening circle and grounding ritual – to set the tone and intentions for the gathering.

  • Affirmations and candle ritual – each guest offers a blessing, prayer, or affirmation for labor and postpartum.

  • Creative elements – such as flower crowns, belly henna (through my trusted artist), or belly casting.

  • Blessing beads or string ceremony – each guest contributes a bead or thread to create a necklace or bracelet as a reminder of her circle during birth.

  • Release and renewal ritual – honoring her transition and the identity she’s leaving behind as she steps into motherhood.

  • Guided reflection or journaling – time for the mama to soak in the love and support.

  • Nourishment and connection – optional potluck or catered meal to close the celebration.

I’ll lead the rituals so the mama can simply receive—held, seen, and celebrated.

When to Hold a Blessingway

The best time depends on the mama and her pregnancy:

  • Typically: In the final month of pregnancy (around 36–38 weeks).

  • Earlier: If she’s carrying multiples, tends to deliver early, or simply wants to celebrate sooner, we can plan accordingly.

  • Ideal group size: Most ceremonies feel best with 6–12 close friends and family. (If we host at my space, it’s limited to 10 guests.)

Where We Gather

  • At my space (Honu Coaching + Bodywork) (up to 10 guests): Cozy and intimate.

  • At your home or location: Within 10–15 miles of St. Paul; travel fee applies beyond that.
